The Serpentine, Hyde Park, London UK

The Serpentine is one of the most famous water bodies in the UK and is a London landmark. It has been treated with Phoslock on two separate occasions – once prior to the 2012 Olympic games and a second application in early 2019 following an art installation in the lake.

Located within Hyde Park, near famous London landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and Marble Arch, the 16-hectare Serpentine Lake is a popular attraction for millions of visitors each year. Due to its urban location the Serpentine receives phosphorus inputs from many sources. To reduce phosphorus levels in the lake, the agency responsible for the management of the lake, The Royal Parks, commissioned Phoslock Europe to undertake an application of Phoslock to the lake in February 2012 prior to the London Olympics.

A second treatment was undertaken in February 2019 to capture new inputs of phosphorus which had entered the lake since the first treatment. In addition to Phoslock, The Royal Parks also undertook several other measures to help improve the long-term water quality of the lake including relocating larger fish, aeration, sourcing water lower in phosphorus concentrations from additional boreholes and installing reed beds.
